Education

Emma was born in Northern Ireland and studied at Methodist College, Belfast, where she sang in the winning choir of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition, 1998. She started playing flute and piano at an early age, and had her first professional singing engagement at the age of 5, singing Gretel in The Sound of Music. As a keen church choir member, she reached the Final of the BBC Radio Two Choirgirl of the Year Competition.

She moved to Scotland to take a place at the University of Edinburgh to study music, from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree with honours.

In 2006, Emma started her postgraduate diploma at the School of Vocal and Opera Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, from where she graduated with distinction in June 2008. She studies singing with Peter Alexander Wilson.

Awards

In June 2007, Emma was awarded the Eva Turner Award for Potential Dramatic Sopranos. This year at the RNCM, Emma was a finalist in the prestigious Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Prize and is recipient of the Claire Croiza Prize for French Song and the Brigitte Fassbaender Award for Lieder. She received a Fraser Bucher Scholarship from the University of Edinburgh and an Entrance Award from the RNCM to enable her to study at the RNCM.

Opera Roles

Opera roles performed in full include Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosí fan tutte; L'Enfant in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (Ravel); Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart); Clorinda in Cinderella (Rossini); Head Hen in The Cunning Little Vixen (Janacek); Carmela in the Scottish Premier of The Saint of Bleecker Street (Gian Carlo Menotti); Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore (Donizetti); Pamina in The Magic Flute (Mozart).

Opera roles studied or performed in part include Helena in Midsummer Night's Dream (Britten); Atalanta in Serse (Handel); Marzelline in Fidelio (Beethoven); Musetta and Mimi in La Bohème (Puccini); La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart).

Recitals and Concerts

Emma has sung with many orchestras and choral societies across the UK, in oratorio and concerts. In September 2007, she was soprano soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra singing excerpts from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite. She was recently soprano soloist for Northern Sinfonia, singing Mozart's Coronation Mass at the Sage, and for Manchester Camerata, singing Vivaldi's Gloria. In June 2008, Emma was soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Ensemble 10/10 in the world premier of a piece by James Wishart, commissioned for Emma and Ensemble 10/10 by Liverpool Capital of Culture. In April 2009, Emma will be singing a solo recital at the Royal Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool.

Weddings and Corporate Entertaining

Emma regularly sings at weddings, christenings and corporate events. She recently sang at the Conservative Party Summer Ball in the Roundhouse, London. For further information, click here.
